LATEST RESCUES

These two 7 month old females were handed to us by an animal shelter. We don't even know their names, only that they were reluctantly handed in by their owner because she was pregnant and couldn't cope with them and their other dog.

They seem to be very nice young ladies and are available to go either separately or together. As you can see, one is apricot dilute and the other is an unusual particolour, or 'flowered' as some people like to call them.

Ink Tech have generously offered to supply the SPRGB with ink cartridges & paper. They will also donate a percentage of profits from the sale of their products to us if you mention us when ordering. Alternatively, you can print out the advert to the right and either send or present in store when you order.

YOGI'S TALE

We were contacted to rehome an 18 month old dog from a family who run a bar/restaurant. They sent a picture of a healthy looking shar-pei and two of our volunteers went to pick him up a couple of days ago. The dog they picked up bore no resemblance to the photo and they were confronted by an emaciated, mostly bald shar-pei who smelled so bad they were torn between being sick and crying because of the sheer state the poor dog was in. Yogi could hardly walk as his front claws were so long. His owner couldn't remember the last time Yogi went to the vet, who his vet was or even the last time for a walk and used the excuse of working long hours. She wanted rid of Yogi as customers were commenting on the smell and it was a 'bad image' for the business.

At least Yogi is in safe hands now and will get the treatment he so desperately needs. Photos and updates on Yogi to follow.

WARNING ABOUT THE SUGAR SUBSTITUTE XYLITOL

We recently nearly lost one of our shar-pei due to ingesting something that contained Xylitol. It is a popular sweetener everything from mints and chewing gum to toothpaste. We don't know how she came into contact with Xylitol, but luckily she was rushed to the emergency vet and the vet realized what it was quickly, saving her life. So far her treatment has cost £1000. Xylitol is highly toxic to dogs and a small amount can cause liver failure and death within 24 hours if not treated. Please be careful in both storing or discarding anything with this product as an ingredient.

Kind courtesy of the above, all our rescue dogs go to their new home with a voucher for a free rehoming pack which includes: Frontline Spot-On, Drontal Worming Tablets, Phytopica Skin Care, Cosequin Arthritis Treatment (Should the animal need it), Serene-UM Stress Relief and Fish4Dogs Dental Treats.

This young lady, Asha, is a typical example of the gorgeous dogs we regularly need to find loving and permanent new homes for.

If you think you can help us give a rescue shar-pei a much deserved second chance in life, check out our Adoptable Dogs

p.s. Please don't overlook the older dogs as they have a lot to give. They are often more sensible and less demanding than an exuberant youngster.
